Wizard of Oz Themed Birthday Party

wizard-of-oz-birthday-partyI love how the Wizard of Oz has stood the test of time and in today’s world, little girls everywhere love to have a Wizard of Oz Themed Birthday Party! Who could resist all of the fun in that movie, from the wonderful sidekicks Dorothy has, to how innocent and sweet Dorothy is, herself. It is such a magical fairytale that sometimes is unbelievable to me that the move is over 75 years old! Can you believe it?! Just amazing! This little girl was all about the fun colors and theme that a Wizard of Oz party could bring to her birthday and she definitely got everything she asked for and more! What a great party!

Wizard-Of-Oz-PrintablesThe party itself centered around the blue gingham and red that is so prominent in the movie. The party itself was held at the family residence in New Jersey and approximately 50 guests attended the party to help this sweet girl celebrate turning another year older! This birthday girl is so sweet and polite and loves to be around all of her friends and family, so having a backyard party fit her personality to a tee! And what birthday girl doesn’t love being the center of attention as everyone sings Happy Birthday to her (and of course she was in love while eating her birthday cupcakes! YUMMY!).

Birthday-BannerJulia’s Mom knew from the beginning she wanted a theme that the guests would easily recognize and didn’t include the girly color pink, since that doesn’t represent the birthday girl very well! She started planning months in advance to make sure everything would be JUST perfect! When the Wizard of Oz theme came to mind, Pinterest served as a perfect way to find inspiration for the birthday, and since not a lot of stores carried this specific themed decor, Mom relied on a lot of DIY projects to fulfill her visions!  We definitely love DIY here!

Wizard-Of-Oz-InvitesGuests were introduced to the fun theme right away with awesome custom invites from MLShaughnessy Designs, LLC that featured Wizard of Oz graphics by JW Illustrations, with red glitter lined envelopes. They were the perfect start to a wonderful party!

Dorothy-OutfitThe theme was also carried out by a fun rainbow balloon arch made possible by Monday Morning Flowers & Balloon Co., a custom gingham birthday banner, and fun favors! The birthday girl even had two outfits to wear with red glitter shoes and of course, a red bow in her hair! The highlight of the party, by far, was the birthday girl’s smash cake session in which she enjoyed not one, but TWO cupcakes! Now that’s a party! An assorted Italian selection and chicken fingers, along with French fries were served for all of the children.

Wizard-Of-Oz-TablescapeBut another highlight of the part was the dessert table! Oh my goodness, such perfection! Dorothy’s red glitter cupcakes stole the show! There were also Over-The-Rainbow cupcakes, The Lollipop Guild’s sweet treats (lollipops), Tin Man Hearts (Hershey Kisses), Cowardly Lions, Tigers, and Bears Animal Crackers!

Wizard-Of-Oz-CakeAnd of course, the amazing birthday cake! There was beautiful dessert table stationary outlining all of the goodies, as well. It was perfect!

Wizard-Of-Oz-Party-SignDIY projects were a large part of this party and the birthday girl’s parents were hands-on in all of it! As guests followed the “yellow brick road,” they came upon a hand-painted “Welcome to Oz” stake, before entering inside for the party. How adorable!

Wizard-of-Oz-Cupcakes Wizard-Of-Oz-Dessert-TableMom not only hand-stitched a gingham linen for the dessert table, but she also baked the adorable cupcakes and make the two-tiered custom cake herself.  WOW!  So impressive!

Adult-CocktailsIt turned out to be a beautiful day for the children (and even some adults) to have some fun jumping in the bounce house that was provided by Kiddie Hop Party Rentals. It was a huge hit with everyone! And of course, there had to be some fun themed cocktails for the adults, too! Which is where this Witch’s Brew originated! How fun!

Wizard-Of-Oz-Party-FavorsGuests were sent home with red velvet and cream cheese cupcakes, which were placed in mason jars and topped off with custom tags that read “Auntie Em’s Cupcake in a Jar.” Everyone loved them and a few may not have made it past the door to leave! What an absolutely enchanting birthday party for this sweet girl! Who doesn’t love The Wizard of Oz??! What is your favorite detail of this party? Let us know in the comments below!
